Great Book for Anyone...almost

I rented this book because it was required in the class I took with Dr. Poole and wish I had purchased it instead. So I am, and I'm also getting it for a relative with a background in American Studies. It is informative as to the place of the Devil specifically and of religion generally in America from its roots onward and encompasses history, politics, psychology, entertainment, and art. There are even sections on comic books, if that's your forte. The author, who writes simply with a touch of humor, makes little pretense on how he feels about the negative aspects of religion in America; so a reader might not want this if h/she is ultra-conservative and doesn't want his feathers ruffled. In other words, buy this if you are open to new ideas and slants, want to learn, be informed, and...perhaps...have your vision of America changed.

About the Author
Vic Bearcroft is a self-taught professional wildlife and pet portrait artist, who works in a pastel, pencil, watercolour, ink, coloured pencil, charcoal and acrylic media. Having spent part of his childhood in Kenya, Vic has been drawing animals since he could hold a pencil. Being passionate about wildlife in general, Vic works with a large number of animal welfare and conservation organisations worldwide, donating prints, merchandise and funds. Bearcroft lives in Newark, U.K.
He says: While I consider myself to be a wildlife artist, I prefer to paint close-up intimate portraits of animals as individuals, rather than in landscape settings. My aim is to capture not only the likeness of the subject in my painting, but also the life and soul in its eyes.

Yes! Someone finally wrote this book!

Finally... I have been waiting for this book to be written. This is an incredible guide to becoming an entrepreneur in a practical, realistic way. I think this speaks to American dream of having your cake and eating it too. Whether you are a carpenter or a Wall Street executive, this book is for you, because it teaches you to explore your interest while not having to sacrifice the security of knowing you have a paycheck coming every week. This is an exceedingly well written self help guide for everyone. Even a full time entrepreneur enjoys side projects. I highly recommend that you get this fast read and enter the growing class of 10% Entrepreneurs.

A great read for anyone wanting to break into startups or explore their passions on the side of their day job.

The 10% Entrepreneur reads clear, is entertaining ,and is packed full of insightful commentary on entrepreneurship, including getting a bird's eye view into startups from the role of an advisor, angel, or member of the team.

I believe this book gives people who are looking for a way to break into startups a conservative, standardized approach to learning about opportunities, evaluating them, and getting involved in the ones that fit with what you're looking for. Ultimately, the individual has to make that decision, but the book puts out a framework that is easy to follow and anecdotes that help paint a picture of common situations we might find ourselves in.

I really enjoyed the author's writing style and industry expertise. It comes through in every page. For anyone who is interested in applying their talents to other ventures in their off-time, I would highly recommend this book as an introduction to getting started on that path. Now that I've taken in the lessons and experiences of the author, I feel much more confident to start approaching companies and pursuing the right opportunity in my off-time.

I’ve been a successful big law lawyer, public company CEO and brand building executive, yet found myself wondering all too often why my career still seems beholden to others. While I’ve always been a skilled networker, I now realize I missed many opportunities to leverage my network into greater fulfillment and security. Markheim" is a short story by Robert Louis Stevenson, originally prepared for the Pall Mall Gazette in 1884, but published in 1885 in The Broken Shaft: Tales of Mid-Ocean as part of Unwin's Christmas Annual. The creature in the story could either be an agent of the devil or Markheim's own conscience, writes Stevenson biographer Claire Harmon. In 1884 Stevenson likely read Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment which greatly affected him and, although the story draws on the themes and plot of Dostoyevsky's work, Harman believes the piece to be wholly original in that Stevenson incorporates an element of the supernatural in the story. Like much of Stevenson's other work, the story shows Stevenson's preoccupation with the nature of duality.

Take some time for Markheim

In classic Stevenson style, Markheim explores the very nature of man and his (our) double-sided conscience. Stevenson demonstrates his mastery of language and writing by skillfully slowing down the scene and allowing the reader to see and feel the ticking of the clocks and the passage of time - in the room and on the street. Harkening to the old cliche of the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other, Markheim must examine his morality, his deeds, and battle his conscience for the sake of his very life and soul.

This is a quick, and easy read. The vocabulary and syntax are not too deep and the pace of the story makes it truly engaging. The story is in the public domain and is most certainly available online but at this price, the Kindle editon is a bargain indeed. I've read it again and again, and I find something new every time.

In my opinion this is a great short story, where there is the ABC of a short story plus religious dogmas with references to a famous play written by William Shakespeare.
The contrast between the dealer and Markheim is immediate and powerful, this is configurable by the exchange of their discourses.

In the first pages of this tale, there is a reference, or better a similitude to Ebenezer Scrooge (Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens) regarding two key points, the emotional transformation after the supernatural visitations of Jacob Marley, and the ghosts of Christmases, past, present, and yet to come, and most importantly the lack of the Christmas spirit, a ploy for to introduce a fundamental Christian's dogma i.e. the equation that the money are the devil's excrement; this concept has been introduced inside the plot using the phrase at the beginning and at the end: The Stock Exchange.

In my opinion "the visitor" is the conscience of Markheim, that has been absorbed and corrupted by his madness due to his thirsty of money.

Thinking profoundly on this character, I would like to mention that there is a clear reference to a famous play written by William Shakespeare, i.e. Macbeth for instance the "Banquet Scene" and the emersion of his madness. The main cause for their homicides, is the epic conflict between their free will and their conscience, and their fear of being punished by the divine and terrestrial laws.

In conclusion Stevenson even in a short story is able to philosophising.

In this case I can assume that as readers we have been led to believe and eventually say that the finance is a sin.
