Short but a developed storyline and characters. Definitely hope Carr continues writing more in the Virgin River series they are always a satisfying sweet read. If you read them out of order go back once you buy the series and read them in order . You will realize you missed something even when you really enjoyed the books. Keep writing Ms. Carr!

Excellent Book

I bought this book for background in Microwave before being assigned as PM of a Microwave project. It's a good book and gives great information, but does not detail site and path surveys, which is what I needed most. Definitely worth the money spent.

Excellent Microwave Engineering Book

This book provides an excellent overview of microwave engineering within the industry. It is well written and laid out in an introduction to deployment fashion. Excellent discussion on link budget development and a thorough view of availability versus reliability within the microwave path. I like how the author introduces you to the basic fundamentals of microwave networks and then moves into planning, design, and deployment. If you design or work with microwave radios, this book should be on your shelf as a right hand tool. The book has been an excellent reference to me for developing software and microwave link budgets. Great job!

Part of a series of encyclopedias on contemporary culture, these two works offer cross-referenced entries, alphabetically arranged, that include both specific and general topics. All articles are signed, and a subject listing, a list of contributors with their affiliations, and suggestions for further reading are included. Coverage in the Encyclopedia of Contemporary British Culture begins with the 1960s but stresses the 1990s. Many inconsistencies emerge: while individual film directors, intellectuals, and visual artists are treated, musicians, politicians, and literary authors are not. Little uniformity exists between similar entries: "actors (male)" discusses all acting venues but "actors (female)" deals almost exclusively with cinema. Entries tend to be more analysis than fact, and statistics in many expected places are absent. For instance, the entry for "cars" omits any information on manufacturing or ownership and instead discusses four-wheel-drive advertising gimmicks. Far more useful is Bamber Gascoigne's Encyclopedia of Britain (Macmillan, 1993). Coverage in The Encyclopedia of Contemporary Spanish Culture begins with the end of the Civil War in 1939, emphasizing the post-Franco period (after 1975). It is inclusive of Catalan, Galician, and Basque languages and cultures. A wonderful tool to help you become healthier and happier.

I have been waiting for Paul Boynton to come out with this book. Paul Boynton and Begin with Yes have been guiding and motivating me forward one step at a time toward fulfilling my life's purpose since 2009, from a yoga studio owner to a founder of a nonprofit. The nonprofit helps cancer survivors redesign a healthy and happy life after treatment (feel inspired, release stress, eat healthy, exercise). In developing the after-care program, I wished Paul had a book with the same motivation, guidance, and inspired action as his other books, as it would be a great resource to use in the program to assist survivors with making necessary lifestyle changes. And now here it is! This book is another short read with easy-to-accomplish exercises and lots of motivation to help anyone achieve their health and life goals one small step at a time for sustainability.

Save your money and stick to the teachings of Graham and Dodd

I've read a lot of value investing books including The Intelligent Investor, Security Analysis, and any book on Warren Buffett or Benjamin Graham that I could find. I thought this book overall was 98% fluff. The section on financial statement analysis was fair but still rather weak. Ian tells you to look for companies that are small, earning a profit and are growing but doesn't dig deep and cover any good examples on analyzing a specific business or company that meets the fundamentals that he discusses. It would have been very helpful if he could have covered the fundamentals then look at a couple of successful and unsuccessful examples or case studies applying the fundamentals. He does mention a few stocks that he recommended through his website that did decent but doesn't teach you well on how to do the analysis yourself. He doesn't cover much on earnings or asset valuation which I was very disappointed. I don't think he mentions anything discussing book value or digging deep into the balance sheet comparing net asset value or book value to market value. All very high level discussion with a big push to his website. Overall, I felt the book was inspirational when it comes to investing in small cap stocks but very weak on the practical application of security analysis. Price is what you pay and value is what you get. Save your money and stick to the teachings of Ben Graham whose principals are timeless. As Buffett says, "...those who read their Graham and Dodd will continue to prosper".

A guide to investing, but only with a flavoring of small cap concepts

I wanted to like this book. Small cap investing is a terrific idea, and I was hoping this book could tell me all about. And it can... sort of. This is a book about investing, but it only has a flavoring of small cap stocks.

The bulk of this book is about fundamental analysis, technical analysis, and diversification. These are all incredibly important topics, and the author covers them in an easy-to-read style. But these chapters could just as easily be pulled out of any investment book. Fundamentals? Read The Intelligent Investor. Tech analysis? stockcharts.com's guides or Bollinger on Bollinger Bands. Diversification? Check out Robert Shiller's lecture on the subject at iTunesU for free.

All those concepts in an easy-to-read manner would be a reason for buying this book if he actually showed you how to apply it to small cap stocks. However, he doesn't. What's more, the most small-cap-centric chapter, on how to find good candidates, speaks in generalizations and uses large cap stocks for examples!

If you're a complete novice to investments, this might be a good book for you. For everyone else, skip it.

I have thoroughly enjoyed Ian's book, The Small-Cap Investor. As an active investor, I am always looking for new strategies that I can implement in my investment portfolio. Small-cap stocks have never been a big component of my investing strategy. However, after reading this book I realize that there is a significant opportunity to profit by investing in small cap, unknown companies. The strategies put forth in this book have provided me with the tools to successfully profit and grow my investment portfolio. Active investors who are looking for tips on how to find unknown small cap stocks on the verge of rapid growth will find this book to be a very helpful resource."
