About the Author
James Bastien was born in Bellingham, Washington, on April 10, 1934. His father, Clarence, was musical and played the violin. His mother, Dorothy, was a writer and a high school Latin and journalism instructor. After living in Seattle and Florida, the family moved to Portland, Oregon, where Jim began his piano studies with Frances Mulkey North. Subsequently, Jim studied with the late Ariel Rubstein, the late Louis Artau, and the late Gyorgy Sandor.

Jim received his undergraduate and masters degrees from Southern Methodist University. He was a former member of the faculties of Notre Dame University, Tulane University, Loyola University (New Orleans), and the summer faculties of Tanglewood and the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan.

Jim met his wife Jane Smisor in New Orleans in 1960. They performed as the duo-piano team, Smisor and Bastien. In addition, Jim was a Columbia Artist accompanist whose collaborative career included appearances with Richard Tucker and John Alexander. During this time Jim and Jane started writing music to address the needs of their students. This was the beginning of the Bastien piano books that have inspired so many piano students and teachers.

The Bastien piano books have been published worldwide by the Neil A. Kjos Music Company since 1963 and are now translated into 14 languages. In 1999, The Music Teachers National Association presented Jim and Jane with the Lifetime Achievement Award, the association's highest honor, in recognition of their outstanding career in music and contribution to the music profession.

James W. Bastien, loving husband and father, and a passionate piano pedagogue and musician, passed away on December 7, 2005, in La Jolla, California. During his long career, Jim became internationally known through his contributions to piano teaching, composing, writing, adjudication, and performing. With more than 300 publications to his credit, the Bastien name has become synonymous with innovative piano pedagogy.

Just not worth it...

I watched Trisha's channel for a little while before purchasing this book. A decision I instantly regretted and wished there was a return policy on ebooks. Over the course of time (between this book and her channel) I personally lost just lost interest in her. I know she has a lot of die-hard fans and to each their own. This is my review on the book based on watching her and reading this dribble.

The "book" - which is more like a pamphlet, lets be honest - is OK if you're 15 years old and want to spend money on your idol. Overall she does attempt to have a very positive message on self love, but at the same time she is not the 'author' to run to if you're actually looking for something that's well written and well planned out. You can easily tune into her videos on her channel for the same 'quality' as her writing. We have to remember that this "Curvy & Loving It" title is coming from someone who can go from telling you to love yourself, right to body shaming in the same breath. This is the reason why I stopped watching her videos.

This is clearly self published and clearly a means for her to bring in a quick buck. If her names on it, the 'fishies' will buy it. It brings no value to anyones life but helps her shopping addiction. This book is just her experiences in life (most of which are hard to believe being as she has a history of downright lying about her past). I think that since she's a speed-reader she couldn't grasp the fact that proper grammar and proof-reading were lacking in this "book".

After writing this one she went on to write one or two more, and we all know that there will be more on the way. So something I would recommend is that she actually consider having someone else go over the book before she attempts to publish it. It would probably help with her credibility. I think the bulk of these chapters would have been better off as blog articles, honestly. It seems like this entire thing could have been written over the course of the weekend and that's not a 'good read' in my opinion.

As a former viewer it was also hard for me to get through the book without hearing her overly nasal voice rambling on and on.

I don't recommend this unless you're actually a fan of her channel and are looking to buy it in leu of supporting her and her career. There is no real value that this book can offer the world. There are plenty of authors out there whom can give you the proper "tips and tricks" to a better life. She should really just stick to making videos.

If you like Trisha then maybe you will enjoy this book. She offers encouragement and tells stories about her past. I couldn't get past the first chapter because it was very cliched and poorly written. I don't think I'll ever finish it.

This is a heavy book! In all respects. It has thousands of insightful and interesting facts about food. From aardvark to so many foods you never heard of and everyday foods and their history, to something called Zwirn. The book is a fascinating look at food around the world in in all its cultures. It's a book Andrew Zimmerman would write is he had the time. There's Earl tea and Earthworms practically on the same page!
